World match play Finca Cortesin | Golf Spain | Golf costa del sol

After 44 years at its spiritual home of Wentworth, this year the World Match Play Championship is resurfacing in a new guise at the exclusive Finca Cortesin Golf Resort near Marbella, in Southern Spain, with a new sponsor, VOLVO. The competition will be made up of 16 players divided into four groups of four. Each participant will play three matches on the first two days over 18 holes. The group winners will go through to play the 36-hole semi-finals on the Saturday with the final a day later. The first prize will not match the £1 million that their previous sponsors, HSBC put up annually. However, at a shade less than £600,000 going to the winner and approx. £90,000 to those finishing bottom of their groups, there is still plenty to play for.
